Summary
Jean Valjean, exhausted from the barricades and the sewer, somehow finds the strength to drag Javert out of the Seine. He has no strength left for anything else. He collapses from exhaustion on the quai near the Pont Au Change as the situation rapidly devolves into tragicomedy.
Inspired by a tumblr post from @Alicedrawslesmis:
“Oh god can you imagine Valjean having to jump into the Seine to get Javert out? the man has had No sleep for the past idk 40 hours and just had to crawl through 5 miles of sewer carrying a dead body and thinks he’s going to lose everything to the law and then this fucking asshole jumps off a bridge? and he has to jump after him? and swim like an olympic athlete against the current to get the guy out of the water from the rapids? that’s too much. That’s just god fucking with him at this point.
Valjean pulls Javert out of the water and passes out from the exhaustion of the last two days and Javert is like ’…great. Now I have to drag this man back to his apartment AGAIN’ but Javert is also exhausted from the last two days so it’s just a comedy of errors”

Post-Seine. Javert, hopelessly confused by his newfound feelings towards Jean Valjean, chose to heed a piece of advice from the papers and decided to keep some distance. But when Valjean disappeared, he realised his actions might have had consequences he'd never intended, or dreamt of.

Summary
Javert found he did not find grey to be as comforting a colour as black or white. Black and white: that is how he saw things. All his life, there had not been much thought spared to the shades in between. Man was either good or evil, an upholder of the law or a defier of it. If one strayed from the Lord's path, he could not be reconciled, not in the eyes of the law. Indeed, that is what Inspector Javert had long believed.
But the river looked grey. Jean Valjean, a convict, had saved his life. Things were not so clear now.

When Javert falls, Valjean is there to catch him. The unlikely friendship that follows proves strong enough to save them both. But another's love is a difficult thing to accept when one has lived his whole life without it.

Summary
At the barricades, Jean Valjean recalls the old dream, one he had before his life was shattered, and he makes a different decision. As a result, his little family grows in size, and thanks to his newfound connections, his dream might just be achievable. All he needed to do was ensure they could have a new life after his death, even though all of them bar one are fugitives. After all, a life-time of running from the law has taught him a few tricks.
And when he finally dies, his eight adoptive children inherit what assets he has left, and his dream. But that's not all he has left behind, as said children would soon discover.
