"We were only married two years. It was Ryland's idea. The same day we all found out about the Petrova line, he came home and said we should get married as soon as possible. We'd been talking about getting engaged for a few months, but he wanted to wait until the summer break. I was fine with that, I didn't want to rush, but he sounded so sure when he said we should do it now. I think maybe he knew this would happen. I think he wanted to be sure that I would be his survivor if something happened."

Ryland Grace was pretty much fucked. That was his considered opinion. Fucked.
In hindsight, checking 'special meal accommodations: none' had been technically accurate and catastrophically misleading.
He was going to starve.Thankfully, salvation comes in the form of a very human-shaped rock.

Summary
Dr. James “Rocky” Rockwell fell ill and suddenly regained hundreds of years worth of memories of his previous Eridian life.
Dr. Ryland Grace got into an accident that caused him to remember years of being in space and living on a planet that was not his.
Now, both middle school teachers are burdened with the complete knowledge of their old lives, profoundly yearning for a person who they thought they had lost forever.
Too bad they’re too busy being at each other’s throats to realize that they'd each found what they thought they've lost.
Rocky and Grace are reincarnated and get their memories back, but they do not recognize each other (Rocky only remembers how Grace sounds through Eridian ears; Grace doesn’t know Rocky’s back as a human), then one incident causes them to constantly want to throw hands at each other LMAO

Summary
I’ve been looking forward to this moment for four years.
For a variety of reasons, as well. Getting my feet back on solid ground. Being able to walk around properly. Having company, new actual sentient lifeforms other than Rocky to have conversations with (Armando and Mary don't count).
But also seeing Rocky happy. Back with his mate, who he has basically not shut up about for the last two months, and various friends. Back on his home planet, that he spent 46 years alone thinking he would never see again. And that’s without the time spent with me on the Hail Mary, or the time travelling to Tau Ceti with his crew.
You see, I have been excited about being somewhere new that isn't the spaceship. Rocky was excited about being home, on a planet with his own species, and most importantly, with his mate.
That was two weeks ago, when we first landed.
Since then, the only way I can describe it is that things have gone totally and entirely to shit.

Grace and Rocky arrive back on Erid, and for the most part, things seem to be okay... until Rocky discovers that Adrian has another mate.

“Oh God-“ The soaring hope that built in my chest crashes down. The emotional swing leaves me feeling unsteady on my feet, I grasp harder at the windowsill, this time to keep my balance.
