    Summary

    This kid was so small.
    That was Phil’s first thought upon opening his front door—that the kid on his front porch was so small. Too small for the warnings heaped upon Phil by the state, warnings of wild magic and dangerous words, of the treachery and trickery that came hand in hand with the legends of the fae. Phil had known many fae over the course of his lifetime, both kind and cruel. The kid on the front porch just looked like a kid.
    He just looked scared.

    Or: Phil signs up to be a foster parent and ends up just stacking traumatized kids in his house.

    Summary

    "That's right. You don't mind this kind of cooperation, do you? Nothing is required of you: to go to social receptions with me and smile. Sometimes it happens that during such meetings I urgently need to be distracted by business and disappear for a while. Will you be able to occupy them with your absolutely wonderful person for this time?"

    The villain looked with such concern and courtesy, as some time ago in the city. Tommy put on a smile at the praise and deciphered his task.

    Distract everyone while Philza does his business like robberies and undermining the heroic system.

    "Uh, well, that sounds cool," the boy shrugged. "And what will I get for it?"

    "Home. Money that you have the right to dispose of as you please. Delicious food every day. A rich, luxurious life. Agree?"

    Tommy bit his lip and looked down. Risky. Very, very risky.

    Tommy is pleased that after his death he got into a novel he read once. In the end, he is a background character at most, and the whole drama of the plot certainly does not concern him.

    But one day Philza Craft, the main antagonist of the story, comes and declares him his son.

    Summary

    Philza struggled to keep standing straight, dizzy from blood loss, a white-knuckle grip on his sword.

    “I have heard much of you, emperor Philza, and I have respect for you. Therefore, I’ll offer you a deal. You will surrender. You will kneel before me, right here, right now, and beg for mercy. Then I’ll take you to the Nether with me, and you’ll become my prisoner, slave, and personal servant. Or-

    The Blood God raised his netherite blade, pointing the tip straight at Philza’s heart.

    “-I will allow you to die with a sword in your hand, and once you’re dead, I will slaughter your children.”

    Philza fell to his knees without hesitation.

    ~~~
    Philza had been prepared for a lot of things when he was taken as a war prize: the loss of his basic freedom, the heartbreak of being separated from his sons, the indignity of being reduced into the piglin king’s “pet”.
    What he hadn’t been expecting was for the man behind the blood-stained mask to be soft-spoken, or good-natured, or tired from the weight of his crown.
    Or lonely.
