“Xiao!” Aether exclaimed, “This is bigger than the wrongs of the Fatui. Don’t you remember what happened to the entire nation of Khaenri’ah? You were here when it happened, right?”
Xiao had adopted the emotionless expression he used with strangers - the expression Aether always remembered from when he knew him before. “I remember it clearly, Traveler. Monsters spewed out from that place, hell bent on destroying all of Teyvat, killing so many. Those abominations still plague us today. Khaenri’ah had to be stopped. And you would hope to destroy the ones that put a stop to it.”
Aether’s breath caught in his chest and with quiet realization he breathed, “You really don’t know, do you…”

“Call for him,” the voice over Tianshi’s shoulder commanded, and the knife at her throat pressed a little harder, drawing blood. She’d really gotten herself into trouble this time. In hindsight, it was really easy to see how this trap had been specifically designed for her…a stranded comrade, at one of the most difficult locations to reach by foot? What were the chances of that? Of course, they’d send the one person with wings. Of course, she’d hurry right over to help. And of course, they already knew who she was, whom she was connected to, and how to defeat her. She’d been no match for it all.

Finally, she relented, choking out a call for her father. The marksmen fired a heartbeat after her call, so by the time Xiao appeared in front of her there was already a flurry of arrows headed his way. With incredible awareness and precision, he dodged or blocked all of them except one, which carved a small groove in his cheek. Evidently, the arrow tips had been coated in some type of extremely potent adeptal poison, because one graze was all it took. Tianshi watched, horrified, as Xiao’s eyes lost focus and he collapsed, mere seconds after she had called for him.->A sequel story to "Organized by Fate"

Summary
First it was Osial… then Azhdaha… Two ancient gods who had been sealed away for centuries are now being awakened. Xiao knew that there is no such thing as a coincidence. He could only come up with one explanation: the seals Morax used were eroding over time… he doubt it is purely accidental that the traveller wound up in the centre of both events.
Of all the Gods Morax had put to rest, there was one that Xiao feared the most: his old master, the one who had enslaved him in his youth and the one Morax had freed him from. If his master were to awaken again… would Aether be able to stop him?

Summary
Xiao is not this yaksha's true name, but a name given to him in the interests of his own protection.
Back in a younger, more naive time, a god had gotten a hold of Xiao's weakness and forced him to serve as their bloodhound. Many died at his hand but as much as it pained him, he was helpless to resist.
Rex Lapis liberated the yaksha and gave him the name "Xiao."
"In the fables of another world, the name Xiao is that of a spirit who encountered great suffering and hardship. He endured much suffering, as you have. Use this name from now on.”
An interpretation of Xiao’s backstory.
