Martin’s sudden reappearance earlier that evening became a jarring reality check to just how strange everything had become. He’d blown in with nothing but the clothes on his back and an absolute wildness to him, going straight into Jon’s office. Tim heard the commotion from the bank of filing cabinets on the other side of the pen, catching only a glimpse of Martin’s hair and plaid pajama bottoms before he was swallowed up by the dim lamplight from Jon’s doorway, and their voices pitching back and forth insistently.
