At this point in his life, Robby has gotten a pretty good sense of feeling when the other shoe is gonna drop. He’s used to disappointment, defeat, wears it like a second skin, so familiar to the sensations that he molds it to his skin, wields it like a mask so that when those feelings hit, he can convince everyone that he knows how to deal with it. He’s had plenty of practice.His mom, his dad, Mr. LaRusso, Sam, Kenny.
While learning and mastering karate has been all about balance for him, about not feeding kindling to emotions like anger, it’s also been about acceptance. About factors, emotions and people he can’t control. Acceptance for himself, so that things in his life don’t live in those eras of disappointment and defeat.
He tries his best not to allow old patterns to drown him.
The other shoe might drop, but that doesn’t mean he has to be defined by it.

The clock had just turned nine, and Tory was probably going to break her own knuckles. Robby watched her hurl herself at the bag, attacking, as she always did, like she was declaring war. On Sam, on the Valley, on the whole world. Usually, it was mesmerizing- the wildness behind her eyes, the precision of her movements. This was something else. Gone was the relentless and calculated hunter. She was swinging like an animal backed into a corner.
“Tory,” he tried. Her blood was rolling off her hands, off the bag. She kept going. He rolled up one of the mats, put it in the storage closet. She kept going.
The punching bag was lurching back and forth on its cord, flying back and returning for more. It swung back again, with the force of a particularly vicious left hook.
He caught it mid-air.

Ekko had heard rumors about Brain Eater. It was a wretched little thing of a drug. The poison didn’t kill you very quickly; most people survived more than a week after being dosed, and the antidote was easy enough to come by. However, it ate at your memories as time went by, leaving you scared and confused as it advanced through your system. The stories of cases around Zaun had gotten so bad lately that the Firelights had started stashing their own supply of the antidote, just in case.
He tipped his hat to whoever had managed to drug Jinx and get away with it. Or maybe they hadn’t, for all he knew.

Her eyes snap back up to his face, and she mockingly grins. "Oh? You don't wanna kill me?"
"Haven't decided yet," he shoots back. "Let's make it out of here alive first and raincheck that."
And Jinx's grin widens at his response. She's always loved playing with Ekko because he's so good at playing with her too.
Jinx loves picking a fight wherever she goes. Ekko just so happened to be along for the ride.
