Ekko has spent a year and a half trying to overcome the losses from the battle against Noxus and Viktor's automatons. Some wounds take longer to heal, and losing Jinx is one of them—or it would be, if she hadn't shown up at his tree as if nothing had happened.
“A whole damn year and a half... and this is it? You just show up without a word, sneak into my base and...?” He frowned harder, putting more distance between them, almost falling off the bed as the situation overwhelmed him. “What are you doing in my bed?”

It’d been a year and a half since the Incident. The Z-drive was still a pile of broken parts. Jayce and Heimerdinger were gone. Ekko couldn’t look at the color blue anymore without needing to find an empty room to hyperventilate in. As if that wasn’t enough, Vi and Caitlyn kept trying to therapize him. Which was downright embarrassing.
God forbid he try to get a little closure. Of course, the second he does, the scruffy blue-haired source of all his misery lets herself in through the front door like she’d never even left in the first place.
Huh, Jinx thought as Ekko passed out and slumped into her waiting arms. So this was what redemption felt like.

“Yep,” he replied. “I think it helped her feel better. Also, can I just ask…?”
“Yeah, yeah, you can ask ahead,” the girl replied. Before Ekko could ask, though, she began rambling a little Isha summary. “She’s allergic to shellfish; she loves bunnies and beetles, which, weird combo, not gonna lie; she has a habit of biting, but hopefully she won’t bite the other kids, and, what else…?”
“That’s all good to know,” Ekko told her, which wasn’t a lie, “but I was gonna ask for your name.”
“Oh! Oh, yeah, right, makes sense,” the other snorted before reaching a hand out. She had done her nails, alternating bright blue and pink. Ekko squeezed it. “Name’s Jinx.”
Ekko has been teaching for only a month before his boss knocks on his classroom's door to ask if he can welcome in a newcoming student. There is no way he could have expected the kid's mom to be his age and basically about the most entrancing person he's ever laid his eyes on. If he falls for her over the autumn term... What can he say? It's not like he ever stood a chance.

High school dropout Powder spends her time behind a counter as a barista in downtown Boston, trying to figure out where life is going and where she wants it to go. Her days filled with a pink sketchbook, loosing hair ties, and steady determination to make everyday what she can, she is at the very least trying her best.
Paint splats and big pens, Ekko is seeing the world in muted hues despite the array of colors around him. Art school is hard, especially when he's a transfer student from Atlanta and very not accustomed to the sway of Massachusetts, and then finals are just around the corner.
They meet inside Powder's workplace, under the glow of a cold sunny day and French speaking music. At least it hasn't snowed yet, but Ekko can admit Powder would look very pretty in the white.

And yet, whenever she wanted, she could outsmart everyone around her, usually with a smirk that drove Ekko crazy.

“I see you're finished,” Ekko chuckled, standing right at the mouth of the open doorway. Although the strain in his voice and the tension in his shoulders betrayed his attempt at lightheartedness.

Or: Ekko became a snowboarder after finishing school, and they remained in their high school sweetheart phase for a too long of a time. Now they are both invested, but sometimes long distance is hard.
