Summary
Lan Xichen didn't know where to go.
He didn't fit with Nie Mingjue or Meng Yao. They had their own life now. The three of them weren't young students getting drunk in their dorms anymore. It wasn't right for him to keep on holding them back.
Lan Wangji had moved on. He no longer needed his older brother around. He had Wei Wuxian now. Together they were finally pursuing the life they had wanted. Lan Xichen had never been a part of that picture.
And Jiang Cheng... Lan Xichen could only hope his ex-husband still dreamed of a future where they were together.
Somewhere in the past few years, Lan Xichen's life had shattered. Now he could only walk around the ruins, lonely and unsure of how to piece it back together.

“Okay, so good news!” Wei Wuxian says, swanning into the room with just enough energetic cheer that Jiang Cheng knows whatever it is he’s going to say is going to be awful. “We figured out the nature of your curse! You’re probably not going to die! It’s not even going to hurt!”
“Yeah? And what’s the bad news?” Jiang Cheng gruffs, crossing his arms over his chest.
Wei Wuxian does a double-take, like he’d expected his (fake) good mood to fool Jiang Cheng. Like it’s ever managed to fool Jiang Cheng. His laugh is a little shrill, a little frenetic as he says, “Well, uh. You know our ghost friend back there? Yeah, she’s possessing you. Which is why...” He makes a gesture at the general area of Jiang Cheng’s... problem.
“Ah,” Jiang Cheng said, expression souring. “I’m not going to like the cure, am I?”
“You’re not going to like the cure,” Wei Wuxian nods.

Jiang Cheng gets cursed on a nighthunt. Wei Wuxian helps him with the cure.

When they do however they didn’t take into consideration the missing kid who had no quirk. Sensing time was short Izuku Midoriya did the only thing he could think of and that was help everyone else escape while he stayed behind.

However when a familiar green steps out of a portal during the USJ attack and the same familiar green was responsible in kidnapping two students Aizawa and Shinso start thinking Midoriya isn’t as dead as he was believed to be.

“What would you do if you could have him back?” Nie Huaisang asked him, a bit too seriously as he leaned forward.
“There is no way for a dead cultivator to return,” Jiang Cheng scoffed, not even willing to entertain the thought.
“Perhaps, perhaps not,” Nie Huaisang shrugged, “Even if he came back, that wouldn’t do much to help, would it? Your sister is still gone. His reputation still damaged.”
“Stop speaking in riddles,” Jiang Wanyin growled, “What did you come here for, Nie Huaisang?”
“I asked you what you would do for your brother back,” Nie Huaisang started, “I would do anything to have mine back, Jiang Wanyin. And I’m here to offer you that same choice. Because our brothers’ deaths never should have happened. They happened because of schemes and plots. They happened because of lies and deception. Your brother was made to be a villain and was led to his death because he was too powerful. Mine was murdered because he stood in the way of Jin Guangshan.”
There's nothing Jiang Cheng wouldn't do to have his siblings back. And when Nie Huaisang comes to him with a proposal to save them by changing everything, he doesn't even hesitate to agree.
