Will should’ve realized this sooner. The fifth anniversary of the start of all of this, the day he was taken, was just four days ago. It passed by harmlessly.
That should’ve been a warning sign.
Now Will is paying the price for his naive, yet blissful, ignorance as he dangles between the balance of his two worlds.
One of home, one of nightmares.
El's grip on his bloody hand is tight as she tries to pull him from perdition.
Looking up, he can see El’s face flushing with strain, her limbs shaking. She’s tired. They’re both exhausted. After everything she's done in the past few days, he knows she's spent. Her powers can’t–
She can’t save them.
Will can't be saved this time.
But he can save her.
He inhales, taking in his last breath protected by a night of blanketed stars and faraway brown eyes, and exhales.
Will let go.
And he falls away from Eden.

Will has always been an animal lover, that's why he's excited every time he comes home to his dog Chester. He doesn't get why there are times he can't see Mike. He doesn't get why Joyce doesn't want him to go too far into the woods. When he finds himself in danger, the only thing - animal? - that can save Will has fur the same color as his best friend Mike.
