Wilbur frowns, but it's Techno who steps forward. "Tommy, he's not going to do anything," Techno tells him cautiously. "You don't need to worry, alright?"
To you, Tommy would say, if he was stronger. He's not going to do anything to you.
But he doesn't. Tommy keeps his mouth shut—whatever it takes to stay.
When Techno and Wilbur Soot-Watson anger a bully, it shouldn't be an issue. They are as untouchable as they can get, for students anyway.
It's unfortunate that Tommy, their foster brother, isn't. Being their soft spot, it only makes sense that he becomes the next target.

He makes porridge for four out of habit. It isn’t till he’s carrying four bowls to the table and Techno clears his throat that he stops in his tracks, a sigh crawling up from his lungs. He puts the rest of the bowls away and pours himself breakfast. The rest can serve as lunch.
(He doesn’t finish it. The food grows cold as he pushes the muck around, tasteless on his tongue. He eats enough that his stomach doesn’t grumble anymore and throws the rest away.)
