Summary
“Are you ready to talk about it yet?” she questions lightly, taking a long pull from her own bottle.
Jay notes her wording are you ready… instead of do you want to. He rolls his head back and forth again and closes his eyes, exhaling deeply. The tension is still very much present and heavy in his body but, it’s maybe a little better. He wonders idly to himself if it’s the beer or having Hailey in his arms that’s having that effect.
Jay considers Hailey’s words silently again. She is right, of course. When it comes to them and talking about anything, it’s always when never if. Opening his eyes, he looks into hers, tugging her closer until his arm is wrapped even more tightly around her and her head rests against his chest.
Or.
Jay comes home to Hailey. They do their thing and they talk about the new recruit.

“Dance with me,” he breathes, dropping his lips to her ear.
Hailey smiles shyly at him wrapping her arms around his neck, letting her fingers graze through his hair. Jay holds her close running his hands along her back as he turns them in slow circles.
“I think this is what they call our first dance,” he murmurs, his lips to her ear again, “and I guess that makes this our song, it’s kinda fitting, right?”

It has a little bit of everything We love about Upstead. We see the unit hanging out together, some sweet Hailey and Jay moments, them doing their thing, protective Jay, vulnerable Hailey, pillow talk, and some smut. So if that's not your thing maybe skip this one.
