Why couldn’t he simply enjoy his current streak of wins after nothing but loss after loss after loss?
It was frustrating, maddening. Everything he had been working towards, his high from coming out on top- it was all ripped away from him because of-Alastor stopped that train of thought.
He had made an agreement with himself that he wouldn’t think on it.

Charlie squirmed under the blue light, “Do you feel any empathy at all?” She bit at him.
”Nope. Physically can’t.” Vox didn’t look up from his desk.
”Wait… what do you mean…?”
“I literally cannot express or experience sympathy.” His head swivelled to face away from her, and a panel opened, revealing an older looking device imbedded inside.
”This thing inhibits certain emotions, without it I’d be a crybaby! Kinda like you.”

”Do you believe that I can be redeemed?” This time, the question was without vitriol, without skepticism, it was genuine.
She took his hand, “I believe anyone can be redeemed.” She meant it just as much as she did the first time.

Summary
In which Alastor realizes he committed a bit too hard to the whole found-family gag, gets fucked up by the First Douchebag, and tries to pretend everything is fine. Shockingly, Charlie is not oblivious. Even more shockingly, the person she goes to for help is Vox.
This turns out to be a case of using the wrong equation but still getting the correct answer.
