It is said that Prince Baelor Breakspear perceived something amiss during the trial and spoke sharply to the marshals, urging to halt the proceedings altogether, though for what cause none can say with certainty.
Some claim the effort was dishonorable, borne from a desperate desire to protect his brother and nephews.
Whatever the reason, no halt was granted.
Mushroom insists Prince Baelor had glimpsed “a pair of maiden’s eyes” behind the visor and would have stopped the trial to spare her, though whether this speaks to truth or to the fool’s taste for embellishment must be left to the reader.

Summary
Centuries ago, the Darkling had indeed found the sun summoner. His only true equal… his wife. Together they worked to liberate the Grisha and usurp King Anastas before she was taken from him, killed to everyone’s belief. History forgets this sun summoner.
Time passes, and slowly steals memory of her from his mind.
It is four hundred years later when there is a new sun summoner found on the Unsea, a girl that reminds him so much of his lost lover. And so, the Darkling must question whether they are really strangers, or if fate is only playing cruel tricks on him.

Summary
The Darkling's tent was large and ominous and quite a distance from the cartographer’s tent, but Alina ran to it, slamming up against the oprichniki at its entrance instead of a proper stop, breath thready and voice high with exertion.
"Please," she said between great lungfuls of dusty air. "I need to see the Darkling."
"You don't belong here, Shu bint."
The urgency running through Alina's very blood coiled around itself, an anger boiling in her veins that she pushed away, willing it not to dull the momentum of her singleminded mission.
"It's about the Fold," she breathed, frustrated, muscles singing with exertion. She pulled out one of her maps from the last month out from underneath her arm, shaking it in the face of the closest oprichniki.
"It's shrinking."Two months before Mal and Alina are charted for their journey across the Fold, Alina enlists the help of the Darkling when the Fold begins to shrink. One Shadow Summoner-- and a Sun Summoner who has practiced her power every night since youth underneath thin duvets.
