    Summary

George is left silent, staring at the flowers in his hand. He tries to say something coherent, but just ends up sputtering instead.

Dream’s expression morphs into a panic. “God, wait. I don’t even know if you like flowers! I’m sorry for being late— I really should’ve just went straight ahead but I saw the shop and thought about you and— shit wait, I wasn’t thinking of you!— I just thought that you’d like flowers and-”

    “They’re nice.”

George mentally berates himself for being so- stupid? Frank? Simply illiterate? Who responds with nice to such a kind and sweet gesture? George was simply dying at this point.

Dream laughs, it’s soft and tender. It’s the kind that makes the smile lines at the side of his face more noticeable. The kind that makes the freckles on his cheeks stand out. The kind that’s beautiful.

“Here.” Dream gently presses the bouquet to George’s chest, cheeks the same color as the petals. “Pink hydrangeas.”

    God. he's so doomed.

(or, Dream is a published author and George is an up-and-coming poet, they both write about love and loss.)

    Day 3: Flowers

“I promise you. I promise I’ll come back.”

He promises, George thinks wistfully. He promises such a thing- to offer George with his word on something, to uphold it. It’s as if he’s saying that he’ll give the world to him, just for him. But somewhere is the lingering thought in George's mind is that he won't come back. That the cruel war that had riddled their land will take him too, and he will be left aching and worry-worn. George shivers at the thought. Of a life without him.

    “You promise?"

That you’ll come home to me?

And as if he heard those unspoken words. Dream beams at him.

“I promise. You won’t even notice that I was gone, my love.”

George lets out a wet and broken laugh at the overly romantic pet name that he associates with his beloved. Dream does so too, before pulling him back into his embrace.

They stay there for a bit. The war can wait.

    “I promise I’ll be waiting.”

    Summary

Castiel's spent most of his adult life keeping his head down and staying out of trouble. This is a deliberate choice on his part, because as a cousin of the King, he'd rather stay unimportant and forgotten. This changes abruptly when King Michael decides that he has a better use for Castiel: he is to be wed to a noble member of the neighboring Republic, as part of an agreement between their two nations.

Castiel knows he has to obey, but that doesn't mean he won't rebel in what small ways he can. Unexpectedly, his actions end up having far-reaching consequences.
