They had met as patients in Smith's Grove. Both in the same position, and yet entirely different. The Shape—she had heard the name one Halloween, and witnessed how it conjured primal terror in all who uttered it. Within her, it conjured familiarity.
As she gazed up into that white, blank mask, she recalled the familiar face she knew beneath it, and recalled how it was truly not different from the mask she saw. His name lingered on her lips, willing to be spoken, and so she whispered it aloud.
