Summary
It’s kind of ironic that, in a lavish, opulent court full of lithe young women in low-cut gowns, the one person Alex can’t tear his eyes away from is the Brit wearing frocks that are about as boring as you could get away with at Versailles. It’s those fucking cheekbones, and those piercing blue eyes, and those full lips that Alex kind of wants to bite. Alex’s frustrating desire—as shocking as it had been to recognize—absolutely does nothing to soften his feelings toward the other man; if anything, it just stokes his anger. Why the fuck did it have to be him?
(It’s 1785 and Alex is the Minister to the Court of Versailles for the newly-minted United States of America. It’s not surprising that he doesn’t get along with the British Ambassador; what is surprising is how much Alex fucking wants him.)

“I’ve never seen a wolf in my life, how would I know?!” Henry exclaimed, sitting up straight and nearly clanking his forehead against the other man’s. He whipped around once he was sitting to lock their eyes together again, “Werewolf? You’re telling me you’re a werewo-”
“Have you also never seen a dog?” it was Alex’s turn to interrupt now, snickering as the blond cursed under his breath, “I was literally taller than you when I stood on my hind legs? What kind of dog is that big?”
