This story was inspired by a prompt from tictoc134 💗
The narrative builds toward Mulder finally confessing his feelings to Scully, only for her, for reasons of her own, to turn him away.
Unable to reconcile working beside her while processing the emotional fallout, Mulder leaves DC to follow a work-adjacent lead up north. There, he unexpectedly meets someone who helps him gain a sense of clarity.
In his absence, Scully remains in DC, with no word from him for three weeks. She is left sitting with the weight of what she said, fully aware of the hurt she caused, while also dealing with her own sense of loss and the pain of his complete withdrawal.
Note: This is tagged as Mulder/Other (and then of course, MSR). This is a dynamic I previously thought I would never write, but I’ve learned to never say never. 😅 That said, as with my Scully/Other content, this aspect does not dominate the story, but it serves a specific purpose within the larger arc.

Summary
After thirteen years of their romantic relationship, Mulder becomes ensnared in the dark realm of his personal quest for truth and his obsessions, all the while descending into the grips of depression. Despite Scully's earnest pleas for him to seek help, Mulder finds himself unable to extricate himself from this abyss. Consequently, Scully feels compelled to make the difficult decision to leave him.
One year later, Skinner contacts them with the hope that they will contribute their expertise in addressing a mounting array of paranormal cases. Despite being separated throughout this period, Mulder and Scully both agree to undertake the temporary assignment. During their collaboration, they endeavor to rediscover the paths leading back to each other.
This fic takes off during season 10, but it deviates away from the William arc. This story is about Mulder and Scully finding their way back to each other.
Special thanks to KaiSeavers who requested this story. The concept was her idea. Two firsts for me with this fic: 1. My first "Revival" fic. I usually stick to seasons 5-7. 2. First time fulfilling someone's story request.
