Summary
In the weeks after Cruz completed her mission to assassinate Asmar Ali Amrohi, she deals with the emotional fallout and seriously contemplates ending her own life. Bobby's not one to leave a wounded soldier behind, and stops her before things go too far. Bobby might be just a doorkicker, but her wisdom runs deep and Cruz finds a true friend in her. She gets her through the worst of it.
Cruz sees Aaliyah only once, in the intervening years. She tells herself it's enough, especially when Josie turns out to be an unexpected connection. But months after Cruz has taken over Joe's job, they meet once more; surreally, under a new identity, Aaliyah turns out to be the mission again...and Cruz is ready to burn the world over it.
**There will be time skips, but I want to write in all the important moments without rehashing too much of the show. I'll also have some flashbacks to moments between Cruz and Aaliyah that weren't included in any of the scenes.**

She zeroes in on the way Cruz’s hands and long fingers curl around Aaliyah’s ribcage, too comfortable and dangerously high, her thumbs right under her breasts, the press of her palms not shy or hesitant. Cruz’s hips against Aaliyah’s as Cruz uses them to pin her in place because Aaliyah is gently tilting to the side, fighting the bout of lightheadedness and nausea.
That’s not the way you’d hold an acquaintance or even a friend. Hands can only be that familiar on another body if they already traveled over naked skin. If fingers have wandered through sweat and heat, and have experienced holding their ribs and hips as they trembled and shuddered.
That’s how you touch someone who’s already yours, Bobby thinks.

But that all shatters to the ground when while on a walk with her dog Sandy, Aaliyah is there and isn't an illusion.

“It doesn’t matter. Want to know why?” Aaliyah points at her, her voice hissing as she steps into her space, hostility rippling in the lines of her brow.
She pushes at Cruz’s chest repeatedly, her words in sync with every movement. “I don’t—" shove, “want you—" shove, “anymore,” shove.
Cruz takes her hits. She is solid, absorbing it all without budging. Her resoluteness breaks Aaliyah open like a dam, and everything she’s been holding back comes pouring out in tears. Her palms continue to connect with Cruz’s body, desperately trying to push it all back in.
“I don’t want you,” she spits out all at once, her eyes blazing. Cruz isn’t sure, at this point, which one of them she is trying to convince.
Cruz grabs her wrists the next time they fly toward her chest. She steps into the puddle Aaliyah’s hair has dripped onto the tiles, easing her until her back hits the counter of the sink. She guides her arms down and settles her wrists against the granite, feeling them tremble beneath her fingers.
“No? Then why are you so upset?”
OR
Years later, Cruz tracks Aaliyah down, only to find that she has moved on to someone else. Angst, tears, more tears, a triangle, and all the feelings ensue.
