Vi looked cornered. Her body tensed, as if every muscle inside her had seized up. Her eyes darted to the pavement, to the trees, to anywhere but Caitlyn.
“I don’t—” she started, her voice small.
“Why won’t you let me care about you?” Caitlyn asked, her voice cracking. “Why won’t you let me in? Is this even a friendship if you won’t let me help?”

Shortly after the release of Cracker Island, the band's good times are derailed by a medical mystery. Murdoc has an existential crisis, Noodle takes it upon herself to save her sort-of parental figure, Russel tries to keep the peace...and 2D realizes it's time to adult.

Summary
There is a tradition in the undercity, when a child is born. People don’t have much, so it is understood that if you’re a new parent, your friends and family can’t necessarily afford to give you gifts in the way topsiders do. So instead, each person brings a small square of cloth, and the new parents sew them together to make a blanket. A patchwork, with a reminder of every person who cares for you, so that your child might grow up surrounded by love.
Vi adores that tradition. So when she and Caitlyn start talking about having kids, one of the first things she thinks about is making a blanket for her child.
There’s just one problem: Vi doesn’t have a family in the undercity anymore. Jinx and Ekko haven’t been a part of her life in years. But when she sees how strongly they react when they find out she’s started a family of her own without them, she realizes that maybe they could be.
