    To say that things at the Avengers complex were tense when the Asgardians arrived would have been the understatement of the century. The Avengers had finally found their way back to each other only to feel more divided than ever. Tony and Bucky barely spoke two words to each other, preferring to glare silently and hatefully across the living room.

    Thanos was coming in six months and Loki absolutely did not have time for this shit.

    The Winter Soldier "mysteriously" gets de-aged, and Bucky Barnes works through some shit. So do his friends.

    Bucky Barnes turns himself in to SHIELD two years after dragging Captain America out of the Potomac River. He was deprogrammed in Wakanda and has been hunting down Hydra ever since, but he needs help if he wants to take proper revenge on his captors. He turns to his old enemies: SHIELD and the Avengers, but it'll take more than a few words to win their trust after the Winter Soldier brought SHIELD to its knees not long before. Now at SHIELD's mercy, the only thing that stands between Bucky and his revenge is the approval of Captain Rogers: a self-righteous asshole that Bucky barely knows.

    While on a mission storming a HYDRA facility, James Buchanan Barnes touches one of the many strange alien devices collected by the Red Skull. He does this, in fact, twice— in the past, and in the future.

    Next thing he knows, Bucky Barnes is opening his eyes in the 21st century, which is full of great gadgets and coffee, and at least includes his old pal Steve. (And, inexplicably, a different Stark.) Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier finds himself in the middle of World War Two, helping Captain America hunt down HYDRA (which is at least familiar), pretending to be Bucky Barnes (which is not), and figuring out the very noisy group of soldiers who call themselves the Howling Commandos.

    Six months later a man with long brown hair, blue eyes, and dressed in many layers to conceal his identity starts coming to the VA for the PTSD group meetings. Sam Wilson befriends the man, who goes by the name James. Despite his refusal to reveal much about himself, Sam can't help but be drawn to him. But James past will catch up to him and Sam will learn things he never wanted to know as he chooses between what he thinks is right and the man he has fallen in love with.
