Rumi went missing for a month.
She's gone off the grid plenty of times before. At the start of every summer, she would stay at her family estate in the mountains. A mental reset, she called it—just some time away from the noise of the city and university life. But she'd never been gone for longer than two weeks. At least, not without at least telling someone.
Zoey replayed every conversation she had with Rumi leading up to the retreat, anything she could possibly think to remember that gave some kind of indication that this was planned all along. It didn't help either that every attempt to call Rumi's phone those first days of realizing that something was wrong—so very wrong—would be left to ring and ring and ring.
