Canon divergence with an added A/B/O world -
In July of 2016, while in Moscow, Ilya learns he is being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. His father blames it on his 'poor performances' and sees it as an embarrassment for their family and their country. He wants Ilya to stay in Moscow, but Ilya does not. He leaves immediately and safely reaches Toronto, but once there, he learns that Russia has cancelled his passport and Canada cannot issue a work visa for him until that is cleared up, or other criteria are met that would allow him to become a citizen. Ilya doesn't think there is any way for him to get the visa or become a citizen in the timeframe he has, so he resigns himself to going back to Russia.
But first, he wants to say goodbye to Shane, knowing it will be the last time he sees him. -

Six years after their divorce, Shane is now working in the emergency ward at Montreal College Hospital when Ilya is rushed in after a motorcycle incident. But the physical injuries aren’t the biggest shock—when Ilya wakes up, he believes he’s still eighteen years old, and that he and Shane are still very much high school sweethearts.
