    Two pills. Just two pills. He stares at them and they stare back from his filthy palm. Rubble, grime, dust on his palm, in his hair, his clothes sticking to every part of him. Fifty percent dead skin cells in most dust, not finely ground concrete from collapsing skyscrapers. Fuck. His hands shake, one cradling those two pills, the other gripping the bottle like a lifeline. He’d almost died, hadn’t he? The second collapse in the parking garage could have killed all three of them down there. His eyes close tight. Rubble, grime, dust on the inside of his eyelids scraping against them.
    His thigh hurts.

    After Hannah dies, House sits in his bathroom bathroom staring at two vicodin in his hand on the edge of relapse. Then Wilson arrives.

    House finally registered two hands holding his face so softly it was like they were afraid he’d break. He wasn’t just staring at the bathroom tiles anymore, either. Now there was a body in front of him; rumpled shirt, slacks, dress shoes. A familiar tie he remembered hating.

    He hadn’t even heard the front door open.

    He held himself back from yelling.

    It’s not as if he didn’t want Wilson here. Christ, House thinks he’s the only person besides maybe Cuddy who he’d tolerate at that moment.
