Porter Mason, a recently emigrated dock worker just barely scraping by, falls dreadfully in love with a well-paying client at his second job.
The rules of the club cannot protect them in real life, not anymore, and as their lives become more and more tangled, they learn that sometimes, there’s a safety in ignorance.

And then she looks up. Red, but not a flashy, dramatic engine livery; instead, a more subtle paintjob, chipped and flaked from work. A freight uniform, if she had to guess, made for utility and ease rather than presentation, and as soon as she glances up, she looks back down again at rough, dirt-stained hands delicately helping clear up the remains of her lunch.
“They’re horrible, that lot,” the truck continues, faint smile on his youthful face as he happily picks through the dirt, “nothin’ they like to do more than makin’ newcomers feel pathetic - you were real brave standin’ up to them like that.”

Summary
It’s been four months, three days, and nearly an hour and a half since Electra determined that Evergreen would not be staying at the Troubadour. A decision not made lightly, and one that they should definitely be able to move on from.
An unopened packet of cigarettes - not even a brand Porter liked, but quintessential all the same - found, twenty chances for Electra to move on.
When they reach zero, Evergreen will be wiped from their memory. It's for the best.

Sometimes, Hydra’s there too, holding her hand across Rusty’s waist as they mutter in their sleep against Rusty’s shoulder, and in those dreams her core couldn’t feel fuller with love-
