Summary
John Pruitt returns to Crockett Island with the intention of bringing it back to its former glory with the help of an Angel of God, but what good are his plans when the object of his affections has died before he even made it back to the states? How would grief change his path, and how would true connection and friendship help alter the course of his life?
Kate Owens is new to Crockett, having come to take care of the estate that was left to her by her aunt. Coming from Texas, it takes her awhile to adjust to the cold and dark of a Maine winter. When the spark of friendship between her and the enigmatic priest blossoms into something more, she finds herself wondering if it's worth the risk to fall in love just one more time.

Kate is awoken by a rainstorm and finds that Paul hadn’t gone home as he planned to. Paul finds that it’s much easier to admit the truth to himself than he thought, though telling Kate is something entirely different. He’s never been in this situation before, but duty calls, and the familiar weight of responsibilities beckon him to follow the path he swore his body and soul to.

Jamie's a cattleman heading to Montana for work.
Kat's the owner/operator of a bar that has some rooms above that she lets out to customers she trusts, mostly people like Jamie: passing through or stuck and needing a warm place to lay their heads for a night. That's the plan, anyway.
When the radiator isn't working in Jamie's room and the rest of the rooms are booked up, what's she to do but let him spend the night in her bed? Kicking him out into the cold night would just be cruel!
