Summary
Louis has become a man of many certainties and little courage, and perhaps he always has been. Although the picturesque combination of his own cowardly nature with this Lestat— a Lestat who does not ask, never asks, nor takes anything that is not given to him— has condemned them to a seemingly endless stalemate.
He is still a man of desires—less modest, less submerged—yet identical to those that brought him there. Mundane desires, and ever the same, which try to change themselves but always end up being rewritten with the same ink as his name.

Unlike Louis, though, Lestat seemed to take great joy in the cat-and-mouse of killing. He would toy with his victims before ever drawing blood, sometimes seducing them, sometimes stalking them through the streets just to savour the fear on their face, always with the same sadistic gleam. It seemed to be a routine of his, the specific chase always different but the methodology identical when death came. A stab, a kiss, a lick of any available blood, and always a cooed ‘mon amour’.
Louis wondered if he was the only living person to hear that endearment from Lestat, but he supposed he wasn’t really living anyway.
