He’s being very candid about this. Amami hadn’t exactly taken Hoshi for the type, considering how guarded he is about everything else… but well, one is bound to feel differently about a condition they were born with than they do about a series of murders they committed years back. On the subject of which, Amami is realising he actually, doesn’t… know that much about dwarfism, and shifts his weight as he considers an appropriate way to respond. Or whether it would even be appropriate to broach the issue at all.
“It’s not contagious,” Hoshi reminds him again, dryly.
“Give me a second,” Amami groans, “it’s just there’s this foot in my mouth and I’m really trying to get it out but my ankle keeps getting stuck, so I—”
Hoshi laughs. It’s a warm sound, rich, and Amami’s sure he’s never heard it before.

It had been around two months since Oliver was hired at his new position at Seraphim Industries. Calling it a job didn’t feel fair because, well, Oliver wasn’t sure anyone had ever been hired in the same way as he was.
There must be something going on here, the logical part of his brain whispered. This is too suspicious, too sudden of a change. This must be a trick to hurt you. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is, and we’ve been hurt too long to survive one more go, it said.
And, by all means, he should’ve listened to that part of his brain. He always had. But there was something about it that made the quiet, emotional side of his brain take over for the second it took to take the pen offered and shakily sign his name on the dotted line. Well, at least it has benefits.
But Oliver knew he could never live like that. It’s always there, in the back of his mind. Something is going on here. Something is wrong. He needed to know.
He was going to figure this one out. Even if it killed him.

She’s just reaching up to the shelf where the USB drives are stored when the door to the warehouse opens again. She can’t help a bit of a gasp and jolt as she flips around, eyes going wide, only to freeze when she makes eye contact with the person standing in the doorway. Or, rather, leaning in it; Rantaro Amami, a second year, is standing with one hand on the doorknob and his other pressed up against his side, weight largely being supported by the doorframe. His expression is contorted, lips pulled into a grimace and eyes incredibly wide, but a moment after he meets Chihiro’s gaze, his expression smoothes over and he smiles.
“Oh, hey,” Rantaro breathes out. His voice is a bit raspy, even weak, but he smiles so naturally that Chihiro isn’t sure if she’s imagining it or not. “Fujisaki-senpai—right? You’re in the class above me.”
“U-Um—” Chihiro manages a nervous smile, fidgeting with the hem of her cardigan. “Yeah, that’s me—um, you’re Amami-kun, right?
