Summary
“There is a wealthy man in London who seeks to regain his youth, and who has exhausted all methods at his disposal. He is looking for a scientist who will discover or create some kind of method, or substance, that will turn him into a better, younger, more beautiful version of himself. He will cover the scientist’s cost of living for as long as necessary for his research to conclude, even if it takes years. I believe, dear Alan, that you’re just the man for the job.”

Summary
McClane is looking at her, now— not just looking at her, but sizing her up. She can’t tell what the purpose of his assessment is. Perhaps he suspects her of being a terrorist. The part of her that’s been hurting her whole life thinks that maybe he’s noticing her height, or the width of her shoulders, or the size of her feet. Lorelei takes the chance and meets his eyes, wary of what she’s about to see in them. He seems distant, but there seems to be no confusion or disgust in his expression. As the two of them look at each other, he smiles a little. Perhaps he was simply noticing how beautiful she is.

Summary
"Suddenly, a bus drives by, slush spraying up from under its wheels. A man runs after it, waving desperately. The bus doesn’t even slow down for this unfortunate commuter; the man is left stranded at the stop across the street from the coffee shop. The stranger leans over to rest his hands on his knees as he comes to terms with the circumstance— his body language speaks volumes even across the street and through the curtain of snowfall. After a moment of consideration, he jaywalks straight to the small cafe, apparently designating it as a suitable refuge."
Or, a Hans Gruber/John McClane Modern Aged-Down Coffee Shop AU.

Summary
“Do you smoke?“ A rugged, bloodied man pulls a near-empty cigarette pack from his pocket. Gauloises; harsh, but effective. Two lonely white cylinders lie in limbo.
A chuckle worms its way out of the whimpering stranger. “Yeah.” An opening. An absurd invitation. The man presses a cigarette to his lips and offers its sole companion to the mysterious fellow before him. A thumb flicks a lighter. A stranger leans into a flame.
—
Two men from different worlds stand face-to-face, sharing in common only a past stained with the darkest sides of humanity. Yet now, in this moment of feigned innocence and fragile trust, they share a light.
But a moment is just a moment. What happens next for these two strangely familiar strangers?

Summary
Lord Henry is a man who experiences everything without consequence. Pleasure without pain, sin without torment, lust without the frivolous entanglements of love.
Surely that does nothing to a man.
Surely the colour of passion does not dull when one chases experience for the sake of experience, untethered from meaning.
i.e. Perhaps Lord Henry doesn't envy the beauty of youth, but yearns instead for the hideous capacity the young have to care.
