Summary
Will Byers has been aching for as long as he can remember. Sometimes it feels as though he was born aching, a gaping wound from the moment his infant lungs took in a breath of air and cried.
Now he’s eighteen, and he tries to imagine a future where he smiles easily, where every day doesn’t feel like a battle, but the thought collapses into grey ash. In that ash, he catches a flash of his child self smiling, a ghost of innocence he can never return to. He will never be that kid again. He will never get that time back, and he will spend his life regretting it all.
Or: Will’s depression has gotten bad again, and Mike refuses to let him face it alone, even as Will tries to push him away.
