Summary
Four teams, one Tournament - with everything to play for.
When Rumi gets the chance to make amends with her childhood best-friend-turned-rival, Zoey, she jumps at it with both hands. If the intimidating Lieutenant Mira Kang is part of that deal, well, Rumi can live with that. Especially when Kang's got a plan that Rumi thinks could turn this whole damn system on its head.
But as Rumi knows all too well, good things don't last. Zoey and Mira aren't out to change the world; they're out to save Rumi.
Rumi has no interest in being saved, if she can't bring her people with her. She'll die down here in the dirt before she leaves them behind.
Mira and Zoey won't stop fighting for her. Rumi can't bring herself to do the right thing, and step away. How far can she push it before it all goes up in flames and she loses them both, all over again? Can she even keep them alive, when a crueller eye than they understand turns its gaze upon them?
The game's about to start, take your places please. There's no such thing as winning, in the end.

And they were *dating* each other.
The thought struck like a physical blow, knocking her breath out from the inside. Of course they were. Of course they had chosen each other; they fit, they made sense, they were a pair that moved like they’d been in love for years.
Where was Rumi supposed to go with a feeling this big when the space she wanted was already occupied? The shame of it rose hot—too late, too much, too obvious. It curdled into something bitter she didn’t recognize in herself.
“You like Zoey...and Zoey likes *you*.” The words left her tasting ash. “There is no space for me...not like that.”
The sentence trembled in the air between them, thin as glass. And then it shattered. Rumi couldn’t handle it.
“What?” Mira’s alarm was immediate, genuine; she leaned in like proximity could stop a misunderstanding from hardening into a fact. “Rumi that’s no—”

Summary
"Coffee after the movie? Talking optional."
Charles Vane is working in a coffee shop at a university. One of his regular costumers, Billy Manderly, doesn't talk, but he doesn't use sign language either. He mimics. Charles gets more than a little curious and that curiosity leads to some unexpected things for both of them. I realise I maybe should've put it in one piece with different chapters, but I didn't know where it was going and definately not that it would be this long, so you need to see this as CHAPTER 1, rather than part 1.
