    "What 'injury'?" Leo echoed stepping forward again and furrowing his brow as he inspected the arm Donnie held out. Careful partial roll of the sleeve. "Why the hell didn't you tell me? And why isn't it bandaged?"

    "It was a minor burn." Donnie said, and it felt like his throat was scorched and burned with how hard it was to speak. "I ran it under cold water. It wasn't a big deal."

    Dad has to explain to him, when Raphael was much younger and upset himself believing that Donatello hated him, that sometimes children do not feel comfortable speaking, and so they do not. Dad tells him he should listen to Donnie with his heart, and that if he did, he would understand that Donatello does not hate him at all. Raphael takes that advice to heart, and makes an effort to understand all the ways his little brother speaks to his family without words ever since.

    Or: Four times times Donnie gets Raph out of trouble, and one time Raphael gives his all to return the favor.

    "…Donnie?" Mikey's voice sounded shredded, like he'd been screaming.

    Donnie straightened from his spot sat on the floor, dropping the tools held by his spider-shell and letting the limbs recede back in. He pulled his goggles up, shocked, because Mikey was not supposed to sound like that.

    (or: donnie had always joked about being the best to call if his brothers needed to hide a body. he'd never expected it to actually happen.)
