Sometimes, sometimes, when they both did well in qualifying, or had the bliss of finishing one-two in a Grand Prix, they’d be so happy and hug each other so tight, and at that moment it was almost real. They’d smile so hard, Charles displaying his dimples and Carlos’s eyes reduced to a thick line of lashes. Carlos would grab Charle’s neck and they’d put their heads together. The heat of Carlos’s palm radiated through Charles’s body as they breathed the same victorious air, their hearts thundering in the same beat, and for a split second Charles had thought they’d kiss.
