Summary
Karlach's daring escape from Avernus lands her smack in the middle of the wilderness of the Sword Coast with a whole new treasure trove of problems and some budding friendships she'd never have expected to find. Her engine has shifted into overdrive though, and it's more of a hindrance than a help, at least until she can find someone to give it a tune-up.
This fic explores some questions around Karlach's wellbeing in act 1. Mostly how she tends to accidentally set things on fire, including her general sleeping area, other people's hair, and most importantly, the first tastes of real food she's gotten to have since being kidnapped by the Hells ten years ago. Rated T for language.

When you spend months on end traveling as a band of roaming misfits and fighting to save the world together, you can more or less forget about keeping any personal business private. Jahen wasn't overly deliberate about hiding his condition from the others, but it still decided to rear its head at a more inopportune moment than he might have hoped. Then after he thinks that ordeal is over, it just so happens to come around back for round two.
