It’s time for shore leave, and Jim Kirk wants nothing to do with weeks of vacation. He finds a low stakes mission off the beaten path, and doesn’t argue when Spock decides to tag along.
Once there, they meet a man who refers to himself as Jim’s mom’s first love instructor, and in a moment of quick thinking Spock declares that Jim too is a love instructor. In order to continue the mission they have to continue the lie. The only problem is, Jim is in love with Spock!

Summary
Spock and Kirk, having become friends over the course of several shared missions and many subspace messages, are reunited for the first time in over a year when the Enterprise and Farragut dock at Starbase 25 for a captains’ party. In looking over the guest list, Jim notices the name of an old Academy professor who didn’t like him. When he discovers Spock was also not a favourite of this professor, he convinces him they should try to get into the event to confront him. Spock, eager to please his friend, agrees.
