Summary
That feeling was one of the ones he could never shake, even when he was back at home with his family bandaged and slowly healing the weight clumped between feathers stayed. So he groomed and preened and straightened constantly. Obsessively. Nearly the only thing his broken mind and body could do at times, then almost without thought the feathers started to come out.
Maybe it started from over-preening, harmlessly, but once the first started to loosen and fall and he finally felt the air between the gaps. Felt it blow away that weight that had cemented there he couldn't stop.

He stared into that baby's chubby cheeks and blue eyes and saw the same face he remembered looking at in photo albums at his mothers kitchen table. The same wide blue eyes that stared back at him in the mirror every morning.

Summary
He couldn't remember the last time touch meant love to him. It must've been some time when he was little, when his mother's hands were still tender and he looked less like his father. As he grew taller and bulkier, and his words grew defensive and harsh, she began to stare straight through him. The last gentle touch he'd ever taken without shivering beneath it was her thin fingers dragging over the bruises mottling his arms, never apologizing but always looking sorry.
His body waited for Soap to grab, to pull, to dig his nails in just because he could — but he didn't. He roamed over Ghost's skin like it was fragile, never lingering on the remnants of a past he'd never spoken of. It was too much. Too Johnny. He wished his shoulders would stop trembling just for a moment so he could feel that sweetness without a lingering sense of dread in his bones.
or: A new recruit triggers a flashback by pinning Ghost down during a sparring match and ignoring his tap out. Panicked, Ghost dislocates his own shoulder to free himself, and Soap has to pick up the pieces while Ghost confronts feelings from his past he thought he'd buried.

Summary
"'Bout time we got another reptile in here," Gaz says brightly. "Maybe now Cap'll finally invest in some proper heaters."
Soap chuckles, smoke leaking from his nostrils when he grins. "Ah'm plenty warm," he teases, drawing Gaz under his wing, the snake wriggling happily, his round pupils shining as his cheeks flush pink. He rests his chin on Soap's shoulder with a tiny hiss, content to curl around him and soak up the heat of Soap's fire.
"Ghost is out on a mission," Price tells him. "You'll only get to meet him when it's basically wheels-up, unfortunately. He's, ah, a bit of a prickly sort, but impress him and you won't have any problems."

Summary
When a mission gone wrong leaves John "Soap" MacTavish in a coma in a foreign hospital, the language barrier turns Simon "Ghost" Riley into Soap's husband instead of his partner.
What begins as a bureaucratic mistake snowballs into a full-blown fake marriage as Ghost is forced keep up the ruse in order to deal with hospital staff, paperwork, and, to his horror, very real in-laws.
By the times Soap wakes up, he has acquired a very devoted husband the nurses swoon over and his parents have accepted into the family.
As Soap recovers, he and Ghost try to navigate their growing feelings as the line between pretend and fake starts to blur. By the time Soap is cleared for active duty again, they must figure out what their relationship really is… and whether the fake marriage everyone believes in might not be so fake after all.
