“I’ve seen Castiel many times. He’s a shell of what he used to be. He fills his system with chemicals, trying to feel something.” You sneered at the assessment. “You tried to, what, get him sober?”“No,” you denied, shaking your head. “I just…” You took a deep breath and stepped back. “I haven’t let myself become a degenerate and that made him realize...how far he’s fallen, I guess.”
“And, what, he tried to make himself better...fer you?” Crowley asked.
“I guess.”
“And Dean set you up to die fer that?”
“Punishment doesn’t quite fit the crime, does it?” Lucifer asked, smirking again. “Then again, Dean’s always had a bit of a temper, you know. And you inspiring Castiel to rediscover himself must have really pissed him off.”
“Obviously,” you spit.
“Trying to be a good person in a world of monsters got you set up-”
“I am a good person,” you snapped, a chill of anxiety gripping you as you realized you just interrupted the Devil.

Summary
"Leave if you're scared." Cas trembles. Eyes never leaving Dean's.
Dean takes in the sight before him. He knows werewolves. He's met his share over the years. Not only as a hunter but as whatever he can be labeled as in this barren, monster-ridden wasteland of his own making. More than that, if there is one thing Dean knows more than anything, it's Castiel. "I'm not." He means it.
"I don't think I can control myself around you."
"You won't hurt me." Something strange passes over Castiel's scruffy face as he finally looks away that Dean can't discern. Almost like hurting him isn't what Cas is concerned about.
Or
On a mission with a possible lead to the location of the Colt, Castiel gets bitten by a werewolf. The bite leaves Cas with some lingering effects and instincts he's afraid he can't control.

Summary
Dean had come to apologise, he reminded himself. To thank Cas. But pieces of Cas' broken heart were now on show, stabbing right through his beautiful face, slicing through Jimmy's muscles and skin. Dean could see it all, pouring out through the jagged cuts: fear, shame, all that hurt—the lion's share of which Dean himself had caused. Cas was wearing his pain on full display all over his body, like a shiny fucking outfit of the day.
Dean had never hated himself more. Even after torturing an endless stream of once-human souls in hell.
Cas let the pistol drop to the floor.
"Then what, Dean?" he choked out. "Why are you here?"
True-blue, wet eyes searched Dean's face with such wretched frustration, Dean couldn't take it a second longer. Had to make it go away, end the pain. Ironically, Dean realised, he did want to make everything stop for Cas—for both of them—even if only for a little while. Just not by means of a bullet.
How the hell do you make the whole world just stop?
