Etoiles waited for him to elaborate, but Kameto had deemed his answer to be good enough.
“That’s it?”
Kameto sighed.
“Basically,” he started, “a relative of mine was in charge of this kid, he died, now she’s here and I can’t take care of her.”

Summary
It’s just not feasible. Phil's soldiers are outnumbered. His allies are hesitant, unhelpful. He cannot fuel the proper war that will bring them out on top, that will finally bring the bloody conquest to a close. His people will be slaughtered. His crown will be stolen. He will be another name to the growing list of fallen rulers.
But a sword raised on the battlefield is not the only way to take care of a threat. Phil knows there’s plenty of other ways to secure victory, or at the very least, push off defeat for another week longer.
The moment the conqueror’s forces come within range, Phil sends an invitation.
He invites the conqueror to lunch.
(Or, AU with king!Phil and conqueror!Techno being enemies, then friends, then family. It is a very calculated plot, until it's not.)

"Since day one, he always had felt a bond between them, he saw him almost as a brother. He knew what was capable of, what he loved, how he acted, his movements… basically everything because you see Etoiles is great at reading people, it was one of his greatest skills. So he knew that Bagi could possibly go against him but maybe with a need of extra help. So after a split second he went towards the two to back up Bagi. Phil immediately noticed and retreated.

Summary
He’s holding his shield in his hand, still. Hugged against his left side, helmet pressed against his right, a good thing, a warrior without his defence is no warrior at all. He goes to move the shield, to shift it forwards to show it off to Pomme. He opens his mouth. Closes it again. Thinks twice about actually mentioning it, mentioning that it’s technically at the source of the scars crawling ruthlessly up his limb and face, the void-weight that digs numbly into his skin.
Pomme, the lovely, logical creature that she is, will hang onto that point with fervour. She will worry about his using the shield, will wonder if he still should even as she knows how important it is to him (just like her mother does, did, she still does), and he will tell her that he can’t give it up, he has people to protect, and she will be disappointed even as she understands, and she will worry more, and it will be a mess. Half of her parents are not here. She has enough on her plate as is.
Tender things are at our core. It’s easy to remember now that your daughter’s come home.
