And at the age of twelve, with no one to miss her and no home left to miss, Pomme is abducted by aliens. It's written in the stars, it seems, that Pomme is meant to end up scared alone with no place in the universe.
Pomme waits and waits for the door to her cell open and the aliens to finish whatever it is that they've started... but when the door finally opens, it's not the violent end she imagined. Instead, a new alien is dumped into the cell with her and the door is slammed in its face.
The alien is as terrified of Pomme as Pomme is of it. The waiting resumes. But Pomme isn't alone anymore... whatever that means.
