“Who’s your friend?” The brunette cocked her head towards the blonde.
Varian narrowed his eyes at the outsider, signaling for him to leave. The lanky man shrugged, his calculating eyes scanning over the newcomers.
“I know when I’m not wanted.” He winked at Varian before brushing past them, his hand dragging across the other boy’s shoulders for a second too long. Varian followed the man with his eyes, ensuring he vacated the building.
Cass whistled. “What did we miss?”
“Nothing,” Varian grumbled. “Just a stupid stranger.” His hand moved to fiddle with his necklace, but it grasped at nothing but air.

Varian is a tense detective frustrated with his mother's cold case and his boss's insistence on infiltrating the very gang she may have died trying to expose. Hugo is a flighty thief who has more ties to her disappearance than he lets on. While the snarky blonde and the angry officer are forced to collaborate on taking down a renowned crime ring, a larger scheme plays them like pawns as they attempt to navigate budding feelings and a web of lies.
