Castorice’s jaw slackens. “No way,” she breathes out, slowly lifting the angle of her head to look at Phainon for the first time since he had come to sit beside her. Far-fetched as it may sound, the sides of her lips twitch upward. “You’re really paying me to spin an epic erotic tale of you and Lord Mydei that ends with him unhesitatingly accepting your grand declaration of unwavering homosexual love?”
Or: Phainon seeks out Castorice—his most beautiful, ever-talented boys’ love connoisseur of a best friend—and commissions her to write about him and Mydei.
(Spoiler: Castorice ends up doing and witnessing much more than is necessary).

Phainon's expression doesn't change, still blank and almost as if he's looking through Mydei. He doesn't like it.
"Are you alright?" He asks, kicking at his thigh lightly.
Phainon hums, gaze still thousands of years away before it refocuses sharply on Mydei. "When am I not?" He asks, lips tilting in what's shaping up to be a smirk.
"Do you want me to answer that?" Mydei asks drily, crossing his arms.

Nothing more escaped him. Even that was too much for Phainon, lips pressed into a thin line mired with regret that he had spoken at all.
“I don’t have to what?”
Phainon didn’t answer.
“I don’t have to what, Phainon?” Mydei demanded, sharp and rough, but that was always when Phainon met him head on.
The truth spilled out in a cracked whisper. “Try and love me. When I—when I’m like this.”
Amphoreus’ first solar eclipse was meant to be a time for celebration. But the sight of daylight devoured by darkness dredges Phainon’s old memories and transformations with them in a frenzied haze.
Mydei proves to Phainon that his appearances, and the past entangled within them, has never mattered to him.

But…this wasn’t a dream, was it? Mydei felt real under his fingers. Tangible. Whole. So many words swarmed Khaslana’s mind yet he couldn’t utter a single one out. Not when he didn’t trust his throat to clog up the moment he opened his mouth. ‘They’re here,’ Khaslana thought, the tears falling faster and faster. ‘They’re here.’
Mydei pulled back and smiled softly, swiping at the tears with his thumbs. “Now what are you crying about, you big doofus?” he asked, chuckling wetly. “Wasn’t this what you wished for?”
“I–it was,” Khaslana gasped, closing his eyes and leaning into the touch. He just realized the prince wasn’t wearing his gauntlets. “It’s just, after fighting fate for so long, to think we’ve finally achieved peace…I’m still having a hard time believing it.”
‘The fact I no longer feel anger anymore. That I finally feel at peace.’
