“Sounds interesting.” Oscar says. His voice sounds as plain and uninterested as ever, but Logan can hear the subtle teasing edge laced throughout it, his hand resting gently on the very base of Logan’s spine. He suppresses a shiver, all too aware of the cameras surrounding the pitlane, before shooting Oscar a smile.

“Erm– look man, I’m really sorry but uh, I’m in a bit of a rush and my teammate, he’s kind of shit faced right now and—”
“Wha— Hold on, you don’t remember me do you?” Logan blurted out incredulously, the alcohol in his system removing every inhibition, slurring around his words. The sinking feeling in his stomach grew more as thousands of thoughts flashed in his head because— did he get the wrong guy? Or was he really that stupidly naive, thinking that Oscar Piastri would remember a nobody like him, even though Oscar was practically his only good connection back in the world of karting—
“I don’t— um, sorry, I mean, should I…?” The Aussie’s eyebrows scrunched in that way of his where he was trying to think but also calm the frustration brewing. It was so familiar and reminiscent of the habit he did when they were still children that Logan had to immediately squash the growing fondness warming him from the inside.
“Wait.” Oscar’s eyes suddenly widen, eyebrows shooting up and Logan thinks, bullseye. “Logan?”
....
Or: Logan was just trying to deal with the shitty hand life has dealt him, funnily enough, life presents him with another hand in the form of his childhood karting best friend.

It makes Oscar want to ruin him.

Summary
If he could race again, he’d do it in a heartbeat. To shove a helmet on, strap himself in again. Sometimes, it’s all he can think about, getting back in it.
Then he remembers how it felt to lose it all.
Racing was everything. All his friends, all his love. The lines got blurred when he was still in it. He cared too much. Things went too fast, on the track, off the track. It was too much and not enough and he kept fucking reaching for more without checking if he was able to hold it.
Or, how Logan poorly, then not so poorly, deals with his life after leaving the world of F1.
