Summary
“So,” he says. “What’d you think?”
Confused, Will meets his eyes. “About...?”
“A road trip.”
Will opens his mouth, then promptly closes it.
Opens it again. “With the Party?”
Mike’s left shoulder rises in a shrug. “Actually, I, uh – I was kind of thinking it’d just be you and me. If you wanted to, I mean.”
The smile he offers Will is one of Will’s favourites: it’s nervous and hopeful and sincere, all wrapped up in one and tied with a bow. Mike always seems so sure of himself, always so loud and stubborn and unafraid. Uncertainty is an odd shade on him. He makes it work, of course. It complements his dark eyes and freckled skin and sharp features. It’s subtle proof that Mike is not just a force of nature but, in fact, a man.
Will forgets it, sometimes. He needs the reminder.
“Okay.” he says quietly. “Yeah, that’s – I really like the sound of that.”
