    "A delivery from Miss Maomao!"

    "Oh," Jinshi's palms itch. It was his turn to respond to her letter, but since he had just seen her that morning, he hadn't yet gotten the chance. It was unprecedented for her to send a follow up without word from him, so Jinshi surmised it would be some sort of clue to corroborate an unusual observation Maomao had made during her day in the city. She was usually good at relaying those sorts of things to him, when necessary. It was certainly nothing more.

    He unfurled the paper, pining the corners with his thumb and forefingers, to expose the message scribbled inside.

    Saw this and thought of you.

    "Is it a frog?"

    Maomao was not at all a difficult person for Jinshi to understand; he could see that her request today for a recharge had been of her own volition, for her own peace of mind, simply by the way she had appeared at his residence. This strange cat of his had truly warmed up to him over the years. Jinshi had no intention of ruining all that he had worked for with her, by indulging in her selfishly. But when she seemed to be making a request of him for her own needs, and not his perceived wants, she really was hard to resist.

    The hand that had rested on his, over his knee, pressed against him - a firm, familiar comfort. Closer still Maomao came, until Jinshi was cradled by her other arm coming around his shoulders, and their chests touched. He dipped his chin and hesitated for only a moment, before pressing a kiss to Maomao's jaw.

    “Is there something bothering you, sir?”

    Plum-coloured eyes dart towards her own, widened in surprise. A second later, his brows fall from their raised position on his forehead and the muscles in his face relax into a decidedly less stressed expression. He shoots her a wan smile.

    “I’m just pondering what we’ll do with the village chief. Amongst other things.” His words trail off with the second sentence, as he once again casts his gaze outside.

    Bingo.

    “Would you like a distraction, sir?”

    or: Maomao and Jinshi finally get those noodles.
