Summary
Jayce twitched one last time. He didn’t hesitate. He pulled the trigger and Viktor fell lifeless to the ground. Viktor watched that reality spin off wildly into the ether. It was not to be. This was the decision he had made. Slowly, Viktor and Jayce lowered the hammer as one until they let go and it hit the ground with a dull thud. Rust spread from where Viktor had touched it. Soon, it would be nothing but dust.
“Viktor, I—” Jayce said, stumbling to his knees before him, the weight of everything too much.
Viktor took his face in his hands. Jayce closed his eyes, breathing a sigh of something like relief, something like resignation. Viktor did not try to connect with him then, just held him for a moment. Jayce had always been beautiful. Even now, with the wrinkles around his eyes, with his dirty hair and the grime that coated his hand, now holding Viktor’s in place, he was beautiful. Viktor had loved him for years. For his whole life, perhaps, if such things were pre-ordained. He pressed a simple kiss to his forehead. A tear carved a path through the dirt on Jayce’s face.Viktor survives and he and Jayce rediscover their humanity together.
