When a heist goes south, Albert has no choice but to rely on Lupin's erratic methods and questionable work ethics to come and save the day. How a drinking game got involved in the whole plan is anyone's guess.

The entire Peaks and Pitfalls series is amazing, but this story is my favorite: incredibly well written, works as a standalone, hilarious and suspenseful in equal measure, with delightfully chaotic amoral characters.

As a bonus, because this is a prequel, you don't need to be familiar with the Lupin series to enjoy this story.

    Summary

But Kabru is younger than even Laios, youthful even for a tall-man adult. He doesn’t know yet how to avoid taking all the pressure on himself. He doesn’t know how to recognize the pitfalls of self-doubt, or how to avoid them. His sense of responsibility trips him to a fault.

He doesn’t know how radiantly he shines, when he manages to get out of his own way.

It’s lucky, then, that he has people around him to reflect his light back. Even if Mithrun himself can no longer do it perfectly, he can try.

He’s half-surprised to find he almost wants to.

Kabru worries about his place in the world. Mithrun doesn't let him for long.

This. This is exactly the kind of post-canon Kabru/Mithrun interaction I crave: Kabru still struggling with self-doubt despite his hyper-competence (he knows how good he is at his job, but he over-thinks everything) and Mithrun helping by providing wisdom born from the peace of mind their bond gives him. I love the effortless trust between them so much.

Also, I love Mithrun's sense of humour. Not enough people acknowledge how funny he is. The "What does suit me, then?" "Fishing for compliments, apparently." exchange made me smile so hard.

    Summary

A look at what canon could have been if Yoo Joonghyuk and Kim Dokja had remembered the existence of Midday Tryst more often. In order:
    - Rendezvous. From the Disaster of Questions until the end of the Dark Castle arc.
    - Retrouvailles. Covers up to novel chapters 305-310, that is to say Glorious Return and slightly beyond.

A must-read for any ORV fan, especially if you love the JoonDok pairing. Yoo Joonghyuk's POV is on point and very fun to read. Overall, great example of how you can change the course of an entire story with one plot device if you use it well enough.

This story gives me so much serotonin every time I read it, it's adorable. Excellent characterisation of the main duo and very likeable supportive cast, clear depictions of thrilling baseball matches, perfectly paced slow burn romance, and most impressive of all: stellar worldbuilding for a soulmate alternate universe! Everybody take notes.

Also, extremely satisfying ending. Can't recommend this enough.

"Literal character study" is such a hilarious and brilliant concept, especially from someone like Laios. A very plausible take on what his meeting and early days of working with Chilchuck might have been like. Also, this story really does justice to the way canon portrays what years of discrimination do to a person. (Of course Chilchuck would interpret all of Laios' early fumbles as disrespect and react accordingly - which is pretty heartbreaking, but at least we know things get better between them eventually.)

Really looking forward to the next chapters!
