Summary
Hannibal Lecter adopts a five-year-old Will Graham from St. Martin Orphanage. Over the years they lived together, Hannibal had complete control over the child's perceptions of the world and he altered it, carrying out all sorts of psychological experiments. He successfully shaped Will into "the savage in the modern world".
i.e., the story of how Will developed his extraordinary empathy that allowed him to see from a criminal's point of view.
