He’s surprised when, as he's sitting on the beach, watching some of the other kids connect with their ilu for the first time, a shadow lands over him to come and disturb the easy blissfulness he’s managed to get himself comfortable in.
He looks up, thinking it’s either Kiri or Lo’ak. His blood freezes in his veins when he sees Neytiri looking down on him, extremely unimpressed. She purses her lips and moves around him to sit next to him. Spider feels his whole body shudder. His skin crawls as his mind is almost screaming at him to run away. She has put more distance between herself than Jake had but she is definitely sitting next to him.

Summary
Relief floods Spider's veins as powerful as a wave, makeing him shake with it and the waning adrenaline. He keeps his eye closed because maybe he is dead. Maybe Eywa granted him mercy in not feeling the blade connect.
The thought terrifies him, his heart threatening to quicken again but he opens his eyes and turns back to look. He half expects to see Neteyam standing there, a welcoming smile and sad eyes that they're seeing one another so soon.
He's not prepared for what he actually sees.

The pattern repeats every morning. Lo'ak leaves the marui to be with Payakan and a piece of Neytiri's heart follows him. And when Tuk hops off on the marui path to go find her friends it happens again. Kiri too takes a part of it as she goes out to swim on the reef. Jake snags what remains as he steps out.
And all that Neytiri can do is watch them go, and train her bow arm. And to her fury Spider is ever present in the corner of her eye - learning the Metkayina way from Ronal; a woman that Neytiri dislikes.
She hates the feeling of seeing him so happy with her. Hates his freedom. The back of her ears begin to burn. Her fingers start to twitch. Her chest starts to hurt more than her bow arm. And she feels such fury. It's worse than before and more intense by the day - unwavering and inexplicable.
Until one morning; Spider skips breakfast rushing to Ronal's side... and he takes her heart with him
