Joke keenly remembers how conflicted Zo had felt about him at first, how long it took for him to work out that he loves Joke as much as Joke loves him. Since they got together, he’s probably thanked Joke a dozen times for his patience and dedication to winning him over. Of course, it’s never necessary—after all, he’d wait for Zo forever, if that’s what it took. Still, that’s just Joke. There’s no way the flock of Zo’s other admirers would be so understanding when Zo inevitably let them down gently, and there’s no doubt the guilt would just eat Zo up.
So, Joke intervenes.
His friends, of course, don’t quite understand the valor of his actions.

“Don’t want to talk,” Gun said when they broke apart again, lust clinging onto every syllable. Tinn’s eyes had already changed. Any confusion or surprise that had been there was gone, something achingly familiar having taken its place.
“Then don’t.”
His boyfriend’s voice was husky, and his tone of voice was one he only reserved for things like this. That was all the permission Gun needed.

In screenwriting, there’s a concept called A/B/C stories which refers to the different narrative and story threads in a TV show. The “A Story” is the primary focus of the story, meaning it will usually be about the lead and have the most amount of scenes. The “B story” is generally a parallel storyline headed by more secondary characters. It isn't the main focus of the show and is viewed as less important than the A Story.
Youichi spends a bit too much time treating himself like a secondary character in someone else’s story that he almost misses out on his own.
