   Summary

   1981. Martial Law is “lifted” in preparation for Pope John Paul II’s visit to the Philippines. Tonton, a young sampaguita vendor, strikes an unlikely friendship with Fr. Enteng, the newly ordained parish priest of Tondo Church.

   2019. In the midst of a bloody drug war, Tonton watches Fr. Enteng — now Vincent Cardinal Benítez, Archbishop of Kabul — become the new Pope Innocent XIV.
