Once upon a time...
A ball is held in Palmetto, promising a night filled with dancing, good food and the opportunity for Katelyn to escape her horrible situation, even just for those three nights.
After her father's death, her stepfamily made her their personal maidservant. She had to do the cleaning, the cooking, tending to the animals... The one bright light in her life was that when she turned eighteen, the estate and everything that came with it would be Katelyn's for real, so all she had to do was keep her head down and teeth grit until then.
This ball came at a perfect time, one month before her own eighteenth birthday. Maybe this was the universe smiling down upon her, telling her that the nightmare was almost over.
Or maybe, this was one last reprieve before the inevitable.

All Allison had was the tower she'd been locked up in since she was four. And all she wanted was to get out, to escape. She'd had tried a few times, but none of those worked.
